Grand Master Yip Man

Yip Man (Yip Kai Man) was born in the town of Fut Shan in southern China. At a very young age, he was fortunate enough to begin studying Ving Tsun Kung Fu under the tutelage of the venerable Chan Wah Shuen.  After his sifu's death, Yip Man continued his training under one of his sihings.  At the age of 16 Yip Man moved to Hong Kong where he met sibak Leung Bik, son of his sigung Leung Jan.  For the next few years Yip Man continued his study of Ving Tsun under the guidance of Leung Bik.

GrandMaster Yip Man is responsible for taking Ving Tsun Kung Fu from mainland China and bringing it to Hong Kong in 1949.  Known as the Father of Modern Ving Tsun, Yip Man has students in every corner of the globe. Over his long career in Hong Kong, he taught many, many, outstanding students who have gone on to teach generations of excellent students in their own right and have spread his style of Ving Tsun Kung Fu around the world.  Many of today's well known Ving Tsun families and martial artists trace their roots back to Yip Man, among which were Bruce Lee, Leung Sheung, and our late Grandmaster Moy Yat.
